Several randomized trials comparing home visitation with standard care have been conducted, and results from these studies suggest that such interventions can affect the occurrence of maltreatment, as well as other outcomes related to the child's and mother's functioning. This new evidence suggests that the prevention of abuse and neglect is a real possibility and not a pipedream.
