DOI: 10.1177/1359104599004003008 Hospital Protocol for the Evaluation of Munchausen by ProxyStanford University, USA The objective of this article is to describe guidelines for creating a hospital protocol for the evaluation, reporting, and treatment of Munchausen by Proxy in the hospital setting, in order to maximize care and minimize legal risks. The creation of a multidisciplinary team is suggested to evaluate and treat the family. Specific aspects of evaluation are addressed. Discussion focuses on risk management and decreasing liability while providing appropriate care to patients, both in the hospital and in the courtroom.
