Selective Mutism, Social Phobia and Moclobemide: A Case Report

Sean Maskey

Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, UK

The literature on childhood elective/selective mutism and its relationship to social phobia is reviewed briefly. A chronic case, resistant to multiple psychological treatments, is described. The results of a novel treatment approach with moclobemide, a reversible monoamine oxidase inhibitor, are evaluated and discussed.

Key Words: child • moclobemide • selective mutism
