Leigh House Hospital, Winchester, UK This study sought to investigate the validity and use of the Eating Disorder Belief Questionnaire (EDBQ) with an in-patient sample of adolescents with anorexia nervosa ( n = 40). Results highlighted that participants were able to meaningfully complete the measure and that their scores were comparable with those reported for an adult out-patient eating disorder group. Participants EDBQ scores were significantly higher than those reported previously for normal dieters, patients with depression and healthy controls, providing further evidence of the measures specificity in assessing anorexic cognitions. In light of the measures usefulness in assessing core beliefs and underlying assumptions in adolescents with anorexia nervosa, it is recommended that the EDBQ should be used as part of the clinical assessment of this client group.
