DOI: 10.1177/1359104503008001011 Skills Training for Managing Disturbed Adolescents in a Residential Treatment ProgramOshawa, Ontario, Canada An integrated approach to training youth workers includes teaching the fundamentals of psychology, child development, family relationships, sociology, ethical issues and group dynamics. However, in residential treatment, it is the quality of staff-adolescent interactions that is the most crucial component, with its impact on the structure and successful operation of group care. This article looks at how a residential treatment program integrates theoretical training with pragmatic adolescent care practice to maximize therapeutic effectiveness.
